FORMER Worcester City goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan made a crucial penalty save as Bromsgrove Sporting moved one step closer to Wembley with a memorable 2-0 victory over Buckland Athletic.

Second-half goals from Liam Spink and Chris Lloyd saw Sporting secure their place in the semi-finals of the FA Vase at a packed-out Victoria Ground.

But it was Vaughan who kept them on level terms in the first half as he dived to his left to palm away Lloyd Gardner’s spot-kick.

A club record crowd of 2,894 turned out to watch the in-form Rouslers end Buckland’s 14-match winning streak.

Kidderminster Harriers lost ground on league leaders AFC Fylde on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at play-off chasing Chorley in Vanarama National League North.

It was a fine piece of skill that opened the scoring on eight minutes as Jack Sampson deftly flicked an effort in off the underside of the bar when given room to pick his spot.

Harriers almost responded when Jordan Tunnicliffe planted a header just wide before a well-taken effort from Chorley’s Dale Witham almost doubled their lead.

The visitors ended the half strongly and with about eight minutes left of it they caught sight of goal again as Tyrone Williams headed over.

But Chorley scored their second shortly after the break as Jake Cottrell pounced on a sleepy, short goal-kick from Tom Palmer to nick the ball off Croasdale and force it home.

Harriers kept plugging away and pulled a goal back with a quarter of an hour left when a great run from Aaron Brown saw him tuck the ball away off James McQuilkin’s low cross.

Evesham United dropped to fourth in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West after suffering a 4-1 defeat at Winchester City.

Both teams finished with 10 men as Robbie Matthews was sent off in the opening minute before Evesham’s Archie Haskayne received a straight red card for an alleged stamp in the second half.

After falling behind, Adam Mann got Robins back level just before half-time, but Winchester struck three times in the final 11 minutes to seal an emphatic victory.
