WORCESTER City have received a big boost in their battle to stave off relegation with the return of experienced goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan.

The 35-year-old stopper has put pen to paper on a deal which will keep him at the Vanarama National League North strugglers until the end of the season.

During his previous spell at City, Vaughan wrote himself into the club’s folklore with his penalty save in the 2-1 win at Coventry City in 2014 and outstanding displays against Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United in the FA Cup.

The former Kidderminster Harriers and Evesham United player made more than 60 appearances for Worcester before signing for National League outfit Solihull Moors last May.

He played for City’s landlords, Bromsgrove Sporting last Sunday, saving a penalty in their 2-0 victory over higher-graded Buckland Athletic in the quarter-final of the FA Vase.

But Vaughan is now aiming to turnaround Worcester’s fortunes as they bid to end a run of 13 league matches without a win.

He said: "When I got the message about returning I was very happy.

“I'm looking forward to getting back at it and putting in solid performances on the pitch for the City Faithful."

Vaughan will compete for the number one jersey with West Bromwich Albion loanee Ethan Ross and could feature in City’s crunch clash at basement boys Altrincham on Saturday (3pm).

A club spokesman added: “We warmly welcome Nathan back and wish him all the best in a City shirt for the remainder of the season.”
