FIT-again captain Laura Malcolm is set to boost Severn Stars as they take on Loughborough Lightning in the Vitality Superleague tomorrow (noon).

The England international was ruled out of Stars’ opening 58-40 loss at Surrey Storm last Saturday with a foot problem.

But Malcolm has overcome her injury and is expected to play at Birmingham’s Genting Arena.

Ex-Worcester Reds goalkeeper Rachel Sweet will come up against her former club after playing for Lightning last season but defensive ace Jodie Gibson misses out with a calf injury.

Assistant coach Sam Bird hopes to see a “more consistent performance” from her side as they bid to pick up their first win.

Stars were 11-10 ahead after the first quarter in their opener before Surrey’s steady attacking game saw them home.

“The players responded well to last weekend’s defeat,” Bird said.

“There were quite a lot of positives to take as we won one quarter and drew another so we are just looking to put on a more consistent performance.

“It’s at the Genting Arena as well so the players are really up for it.”

Loughborough started strongly with a 59-45 triumph over Manchester Thunder.

“They have got a number of squad players from last year so have a lot more playing time under their belts,” Bird added.

“They have also got a very good coaching team and set-up but we feel they have got a couple of weaknesses we will try to expose.

“If we can stick to our own game-plan and execute our plays well then it should be a tight match.”
