FANS’ favourite Tyler Weir insists he “does not want to leave” struggling Worcester City despite admitting to receiving interest from “a few clubs”.

Due to the cash-strapped club’s financial plight all of City’s players have been put on the transfer list.

And representatives from the interested clubs are believed to have been at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground last Saturday as Worcester lost 2-1 to FC Halifax Town.

But Weir still feels he has “something to give” the Blue and Whites who are third from bottom after a 13-match winless streak in National League North.

The in-demand full-back is the longest-serving player in City’s squad having made 189 appearances over six seasons.

“I have played nearly 200 games now for Worcester,” said Weir who made his debut in 2012.

“It is shame what it has come to but I will give 120 per cent every game. I have had a few clubs inquiring and I think there were a couple there last Saturday.

“But I don’t want to leave yet as I believe I have got something to give here.”

Ledbury-based Weir has previously praised the club for standing by him during his two-month suspension from football last year.

The 26-year-old was banned after failing to immediately declare to the Football Association he had been approached to fix a match.

City are without a league win since November and manager Carl Heeley ended his seven-year reign late last month.

But Weir insisted they could not use their troubles off the pitch as an excuse for their poor form and said they were fully behind caretaker boss John Snape.

“Obviously we know what’s going on and it is hard,” Weir said.

“We are getting paid every week so have got to turn up and show commitment. I don’t think you could fault that against Halifax.

“We are in a bad position but as you could see at the weekend we have not given up and we will keep going until the end.”

After Halifax went 2-0 in front, Weir appeared to have got City back on track when he scored from the spot on 62 minutes.

But he was then shown a second yellow card by referee Robert Massey-Ellis after tangling with keeper Sam Johnson as he tried to retrieve the ball.

Weir is now banned for City’s crunch clash at bottom club Altrincham tomorrow (3pm).

“I have scored the penalty and gone to collect the ball,” he said.

“But the keeper has gone to get it as well so I have pushed him, grabbed the ball, ran back to the centre circle and the next minute I get a second yellow.

“They (the officials) didn’t even tell me what I got sent off for. It was a shambles.

“Why hasn’t the guy got sent off (for bringing down Jordan Keane for the penalty) as he was the last man?

“He didn’t even get a yellow card. It was an absolute joke.”
