WORCESTER swim-feeder specialist John Snelson made the long walk to the boat meadow at Eckington worthwhile with a fine bream weight of 89lb 10oz 0dr to win an open contest.

The River Avon was in fine winter trim carrying around a foot of extra water which produced a bream fest for around 20 competitors.

St John’s angler Snelson put his previous day’s dry net at Arrow Valley behind him to take 18 bream from peg 10 near the yacht club.

All his fish fell for the standard groundbait feeder and worm approach.

Tewkesbury’s Bob Danter used the same tactics on the stump peg three to net 45-12 of slabs for second.

Veteran Bill Blowing came third with 28-10 from peg 33 below the covert, while fourth was Lawrence Hibbs with a peg 29 catch of 22-8.

The latest Wednesday float-only knock-up match at Pitchcroft produced a win for Bob McAulay.

On peg 10 in the deeps he netted three chub along with roach to nearly 2lb on stick float and maggot for 19-6.

Second was Alf Hand on the boards with around 150 small roach and dace on waggler and whip tactics to weigh 16-10. Third from peg seven was John Halfpenny with a bolo-caught 13-1.
