TO concede after just nine seconds was a “surreal” moment for caretaker boss John Snape as Worcester City lost 2-0 at lowly Altrincham.

The Blue and Whites arrived at Moss Lane with high hopes of securing their first win in Vanarama National League North since November.

But after six touches of the ball rock-bottom Alty opened the scoring as Elliott Newby finished off a move which started from the kick-off.

“It was surreal,” Snape said.

“We had got to deal with the first ball but we didn’t. We have then not dealt with the second ball and the third is in the back of our net so it is disappointing.

“We should have been switched on and ready to start the game.”

And Snape was even more frustrated when Chris Lynch slammed in a second on 12 minutes after Tom Sharpe miscued a header.

“We switched off too many times in our own box,” he said.

“The second goal came from a long ball inside their area from a free-kick we should not have given away.

“We were too deep, haven’t dealt with it and it has cost us another silly goal.

“To be fair to Altrincham the first goal was a good finish after someone got down the side of us and put in a cross.

“But the second goal is unacceptable at any level of football.”

Third-from-bottom Worcester, who remain two points adrift of safety, face play-off chasing Darlington 1883 at Bromsgrove’s Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm).
