MARTLEY Cricket Club batsman Alex Basford secured three awards at their annual dinner at Worcestershire’s New Road.

The 17-year-old topped Martley’s first XI batting averages with more than 44 after hitting 749 in the 2016 Worcestershire League, including a career-best 180.

Basford also won the first team’s player’s player award and chairman Pat Bibby’s memorable moment of the season.

Veteran Rob Ganderton claimed the second XI bowling award and the President’s Trophy from Dave Bradley for his work with the club’s juniors over many years.

Ash Jones took the second XI batting prize and was voted player of the season by his team-mates.

The clubman of the year accolade went to junior coach Simon Butler.

Stuart Watt received the fielder of the year award for the first trophy he had ever won in cricket.

Indoor nets start for Martley’s seniors at Malvern College on March 21, while junior nets get under way at Sport Martley Leisure Centre on Friday.
