BREDON Hill Academy are celebrating after winning the Worcestershire Schools Lord’s Taverners under-13 cricket title.

The school’s under-13 girls also shone in the indoor eight-a-side event, finishing runners-up in their section to Aston Fields team.

The boys recorded a narrow victory over Aston Fieldsl in their final after prevailing in a dramatic bowl-off over.

Both teams had bowled and fielded very well as the final ended in a tie.

But Jamie Everall was Bredon’s hero as he struck the winning runs in the extra over.

Notable performances came from Tommy Boorman, who starred behind the stumps and with the bat, along with some classy batting from Myles Holland.

The girls’ team played a number of games but narrowly lost in the final to Aston Fields.

Katie Jones impressed with the bat and Lottie Gilderson was superb with the ball.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the event and Darren Haines, a member of the PE department at Bredon Hill Academy, praised the high standards of the competition run by Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

“It was great to see such a high standard of performance from our girls at the competition, and the ability of other girls from a variety of schools,” he said.

“It was also a pleasure to work with such talented players in the boys group and I hope we can get further success going into hardball formats of the game in the summer term.”
