WORCESTER St John's Cycling Club’s 2017 season started with riders competing in road races and time trials.

La Flèche Waltonne was round one of the LVRC (League of Veteran Racing Cyclists) Percy Stallard National Series in Leicestershire.

Mark Corbett, Adrian Bird and Simon Adcook competed in the A/B age-related category in Husbands Bosworth.

Vince Page, Rob Nicholls, Richard Rollason and Richard Graham contested the C/D section.

Windy conditions with gusts approaching 40 miles per hour ensured a tough race with multiple retirements within a strong field over a undulating 45-mile route.

Strong early-season performances from Corbett and Bird secured third and fourth position respectively in their category.

Page finished comfortably in the bunch.

Two St John's members travelled to Usk for the Royal Dean Forest Cycling Club's open 25 time trial.

Displaying resilience in tough, blustery conditions with strong headwinds on the return leg Martin Lines and Dave Walker were happy with their first performances of the year.

Walker clocked one hour one minute three seconds and Lines went under the hour in 57.53.
