THERE will be new names on the Maclaren Shield after Worcester Golf and Country Club’s first competition of the new season.

Worcestershire County Golf Union president Grenville Rose and former Worcestershire and England cricketer Tim Curtis, 57, lifted the trophy with a better-ball medal score of 59.

Runners-up on count-back with 62 were David Hobbs and Roger King with Rick Gerrard and Sam Hitchings in third.

Roger Crisp (70 gross 10 handicap 60 nett) won the first medal of the season.

Played on the high course Crisp shot a round of six-under, finishing two ahead of Tony English (69-7-62) with Geoff Luxton (71-7-64) third.

Scratch golfer Shaun Roberts (66-0-66) enjoyed the best gross round.

In Division Two Curtis (74-12-62) won on countback from Jeremy Clutterbuck (75-13-62) with Ian Gardner (78-15-63) third on countback from Alec Mackie (78-15-63).

Russ Mason (84-19-65) won Division Three ahead of in-form David Hobbs (84-18-66) and Stuart Denyer (83-17-66).

Alex Band, 16, won the March medal on the main course, firing a two-under gross score of 68-4-64.

Steve Hollinshead (72-6-66) was runner-up with Josh Bryan (68-1-67) third.
