THE Boys In Blue team won the Texas scramble at Worcester's Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park.

Barrie Hope, Steve Baylis, John Griffiths and Steve Griffiths sneaked past the early clubhouse leaders to snatch the win.

Teams of four played off 10 per cent of their combined handicaps and nett scores were taken down to one decimal place.

The Boys In Blue (3.8 handicap) took the title by the closest of margins after finishing with 60.2 nett.

Six birdies, 11 pars and just one bogey on the 16th hole sealed the deal.

Mike Sanders, Peter Brown, John Hine and Bill Kelly (8) were second with 61.

Ed Nicklin, Mick Huggins, George Postans and Norman Vernalls (6.5) posted 61.5 to take third.

Joe Jackson, Jan Schutte, Martin Hucker and Geoff Jones (6.8) followed with 62.2.

Steve Williams (5) had a long wait to start in the medal but took out his frustration on the rest with a winning 66 nett from a 44-strong field.

Ten pars and three birdies were only marginally diminished by five bogies.

Two late birdies secured Williams victory on countback from Barry Hawes whose handicap dropped from 27 to 25.

Brian Hodgetts (18) took third on countback after finishing tied with Jamie Newton (14) and Tom Jenkins on 68.

The ladies contested a nine-hole stableford and Jane Brinsford (24) took a well-deserved win by three after posting 18 points.

Starting out with three consecutive pars Brinsford took herself clear early on and created a comfortable buffer.

By continuing to score on every hole the gap was never breached and even three double bogies or worse late on did not deny her.

Jane Rowland (28) finished second with 15 and Magdelen Coomber (31) returned 12 for third on countback from Jane Wood (36).
