WORCESTER St John's Cycling Club sent nine riders to the VC Sevale open 10-mile time trial.

The event, supported by Echelon Cycles in Pershore, consisted of a solo and two-up competition on the popular Severn Stoke course.

Quick times were difficult due to a strong headwind on the tougher second leg of the course, making for a trying early-season challenge.

Fifty-five riders were in the solo competition with Paul Guest the leading St John's member in 13th with a time of 23 minutes nine seconds.

Simon Adcook finished 17th in 23m 26s, while Mark Hand clocked 24.24, James Davidson 24.44, Nic Bradburn 24.52 and Adrian Murray 25.49.

Dave Walker punctured just after the turn and did not finish.

The winner was in-form Stuart Travis of Team Bottrill/HSS Hire in 20.43.

The two-up victors were Tim Wood and Joel Turvey of Pershore's Team Echelon in 21.25.

Martin Lines and Mark Thomas of St John's combined for second spot in 22.11.

St John's riders also competed in the Bush Healthcare LVRC road race on the Pinvin circuit.

Adrian Bird got into the winning break but cramp on the final lap ensured he could only finish seventh.

Mark Thomas and Mark Corbett led the bunch in for ninth and 10th place respectively.
