WORCESTER should avoid relegation on goal difference after a dramatic final day of the Warwick Printing Midland Hockey League Premier Division season.

The third-from-bottom city men's firsts were level on points with five teams after six wins and four draws during the campaign.

Worcester finished with a 3-3 draw at West Bridgford, who ended up one position above them, as Oliver Davis and Tom Schubert (2) scored the goals.

With two teams expected to go down they should live to fight another day in the Midlands top flight as North Stafford and Barford Tigers occupy the relegation places.

Worcester had lost 3-1 at home to county rivals Stourport the previous weekend with Tom Schubert on target.

Worcester seconds clinched third in the West Midlands Premier following a 2-1 home win over Stratford.

The thirds finished fourth from bottom in Midlands One after a 6-2 defeat at Warwick University.

Worcester fourths and fifths were fifth and sixth respectively in the West Midlands Premier.

They both won their final games of 2016-17 with the fourths beating Harborne fourths 5-1 and the fifths defeating Olton and West Warwick fourths 3-2.

The eighths finished their South West Division Two season with a 2-1 home defeat to promoted Old Silhillians fourths.

Fifth-placed Worcester put on a good display with better passing and support helping them dominate for large spells.

Old Sils were fortunate to win with the hosts paying for sloppy marking.  Dom Stokes scored from a short corner and Nick Power produced his best display of the campaign.

But Stee Preater ended up visiting hospital after getting hit with a stick in the face.

Meanwhile, Pershore and Droitwich Spa finished fifth and sixth respectively in West Midlands One.

Hosts Pershore beat Spa 2-1 on the final day with Anthony Handley and Gareth Rushton scoring.

Matt Lee pulled a goal back.

Improving Worcester women's firsts moved up to sixth in Midlands Division Two with a 3-2 win at third-placed Tamworth.
