UPTON Snodsbury netball star Charlotte Collins could not have asked for a more perfect end to her student days after captaining Loughborough University to the BUCS Championship title.

The University of Bath hosted BUCS Big Wednesday with hundreds of students from 14 sports descending for an action-packed day.

Collins' team won 61-42 against the University of Hertfordshire to cap an unbeaten season when they were also crowned league champions.

While graduation day looms on the horizon for the geography student she will look back on her university netball days with immense joy.

The former King's School Worcester pupil said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. We couldn’t have asked for more from the girls. It’s been a great season so we are so happy to end it with the win.

“Our performance was a bit touch-and-go. We could have been better because it was a bit messy but credit to Hertfordshire who pushed us all the way.

“I’m feeling very emotional that it was my last BUCS. I did cry at the end of the game but it’s been an amazing three years and I’m so happy to have finished with a win.

“I was surprised when the team asked me to be captain at the start of the season and it’s just been absolutely amazing.

"They are such a talented group of girls at Loughborough so I am so happy to have led them to this title.”

Collins added: “It means everything to me to represent Loughborough. It’s the best university for sport in the world and it’s amazing to be a captain of a first team there.

“When BUCS finishes and you’re in the summer term Wednesdays just aren’t the same. Wednesdays will never be the same again for me after I graduate.

“Competing in BUCS has been a great experience for me. I’ve never been to a BUCS Big Wednesday before as a player. We held it at Loughborough in my first year but I’ve never played in it myself.

“But it’s amazing. The vibe here is great. Even if people lose their final they’re still in great spirits and that is a great atmosphere to be around.”
