ST Barnabas Primary School represented Worcester City FC at the prestigious National Football League under 11s tournament.

Ten pupils from the Green Lane school travelled to Bath for the south-west regional finals at Odd Down Sports Centre.

The competition allowed every National League team to be represented by a primary school within their region.

St Barnabas played six matches and finished fourth overall, narrowly missing out on second place.

They drew against Maidenhead United but beat other schools representing Oxford City, Torquay United, Bath City and Gloucester City.

However, the Worcester pupils lost 1-0 to the eventual winners Witton Middle School from Droitwich Spa who were representing Kidderminster Harriers.

Their sports teacher Chris Jenkinson was impressed with the effort and attitude of all the St Barnabas children.

He said: “The children all had an absolutely fantastic day out representing both St Barnabas and Worcester City.

"They really enjoyed themselves and were a real credit to our school and Worcester City.

"I was very proud of them and would just like to say thank you very much indeed to Worcester City for inviting St Barnabas to represent them in this prestigious tournament."

City director Mark Wilcox watched some of the matches and was impressed with the team’s attitude and the way the children conducted themselves as was their under 18s team manager Nigel Upson.

St Barnabas are coached by the school's Jenkinson, Mark Atkinson, Ed Hagley and Gregory Forrester.

The team must now play their remaining fixtures in the Worcester City Primary Schools’ League.

Meanwhile, Witton progressed to the national finals which will be on the main pitch at Wembley Stadium.
