ALEC Southall put pre-match preparation to good use and narrowly beat his father to be crowned Worcester and District Angling Association club champion on Piddle lake at Pinvin.
With the conditions having a big effect competitors facing the wind took the main prizes with Southall having a mixed bag of 28lb 10oz 0dr.
Barry Southall came second from the same bank with 21-0 to beat Alan Taylor’s third--placed 13-12 while in fourth came Peter Thomas with 9-14.
The following day’s association open was on the canal at Merrimans Hill, Worcester, where regular competitor Nigel Field won with 13-5-8 of bream, skimmers and hybrids to maggot and pinkie over groundbait on the concrete peg three.
In-form Jamie Smith came second with 6-12 from the adjacent peg two with his net including a roach over 1lb.
In third place was Mick Samson with a 5-14-7 catch of hybrids and perch.
A contest at Fishponds on the new peg numbers saw venue regular Steve Warren won with 16-9 of maggot-caught ide onto the scales from 11.
Second went to Richard Blight with a mixed bag of 9-13 from peg five while in third came Len Merrill’s peg 10 catch of 9-1.
