EVESHAM Rowing Club will be holding their popular two-day regatta on Saturday and Sunday.

The annual regatta will be on the Saturday starting at 9am while the sprint regatta will be on the Sunday from 9am.

The club hope to run the full 1,000-metre upstream course for the main event and the 600-metre downstream section for the sprint.

The regatta is highly popular among other clubs as it usually attracts about 400 crews from all over the United Kingdom.

Abbey Park, weather permitting, is normally filled up by spectators who come to watch the competitive racing.

The event is expected to give a real economic boost to Evesham with hundreds of athletes booking accommodation in close proximity to the town.

Evesham have several famous former rowers, especially Wormington's Alex Gregory who won his second Olympic gold medal at Rio in the coxless four before retiring at the age of 33.
