WORCESTER'S Old Vigornians lost by 138 runs in their first Worcestershire League Division Two game to a strong Chaddesley Corbett side containing several new players.

The visitors won the toss and batted on a good New Road pitch, compiling 252-8 in 50 overs.

OVs reduced Chaddesley to 52-4 and 120-5 but Bilal Hassan (97) and Chris Mole (50) added 89 for the sixth wicket.

Jabba Riaz and Alex Parker each picked up three wickets.

OVs got off to a good start with openers Chris Drew (15) and Osman Fiaz (44) adding 62 for the first wicket.

But they fell in quick succession and the side collapsed to 114 all out with only Ahsan Fiaz (18) and George Painter (15) getting into double figures.

Leg-spinner Waqas Ahmed did most of the damage, taking 4-13 from 12.2 overs.

A brilliant spell by 15-year-old off-spinner Zain Hussain led OVs seconds to an eight-wicket victory at Bartestree and Lugwardine in their Division Three opener.

The King's School Worcester pupil picked up 6-36 from 10 overs as the Herefordshire side collapsed from 44-0 to 87 all out.

Phil Mackie and Ben Doyle took combined figures of 2-11 from 12 overs at the other end to contain the batsmen who mostly succumbed to rash shots.

Bartestree chose to bat on a two-paced pitch and got off to a good start thanks to openers Nick Freeman (31) and Ian Strangward (11).

But after Mackie made the breakthrough the batsmen were stifled and the wickets kept tumbling.

Adam Clements led the city side to a comfortable win with his first half-century since moving from Worcester Dominies.

He was on 53 not out when OVs reached the victory target for the loss of just two wickets in the 14th over.
