Twenty years later he took the title again, beating Geoff Burford in the semis 11-8, 11-3, 11-8 and Brett Brining in the final 11-9, 5-11, 4-11, 16-14, 11-8.

Brining had beaten Graham Thompson 11-5, 15-13, 12-10 in the last four.

In the veterans' singles Brining defeated Claxton in the semis but then lost to Thompson, who had seen off Dave Hallam, in a repeat of last year's final 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9.

Claxton teamed up with Hallam, playing in the championships for the first time, in the men's doubles and they beat Brett and Geoff Burford in the final 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6.

His third success was in the veterans' doubles which teamed up players from Division One with those from the lower ranks.
