OMBERSLEY demonstrated their Birmingham and District Cricket League Premier Division title credentials on the first day with a nine-wicket thrashing of hosts Kenilworth Wardens.

The hosts were restricted to 203-7 as teenagers Ben Rex (58) and Harry Johnson (44) featured prominently with Oliver Uffindall taking 3-54.

After the early loss of Liam Gwynne Worcestershire duo Brett D’Oliveira (98 not out) and Josh Dell (85no) showed off the considerable talent Ombersley have at their disposal.

The highest total of the day in the division came from Wolverhampton who piled up 287-8 at home to Brockhampton.

Zen Malik struck a maiden league century from 91 balls in an innings that included three sixes and seven fours after Amritpal Singh opened up with 76.

Despite 65 from Sri Lankan Dinusha Fernando and 50 from Dominic Badger the Herefordshire side went down to a 53-run defeat with new Wolverhampton skipper James Hammond claiming 3-66.

The 2013 champions Shrewsbury crashed to 54 all out against Barnt Green at London Road with Warwickshire leg-spinner Josh Poysden snapping up 5-7.

Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard top scored with an unbeaten 21 from 58 balls for Shrewsbury.

His brother Michael took 3-21 as Green lost four wickets before they reached their target.

Kidderminster were another side that struggled for runs, stumbling to 105 all out against Walsall at Gorway where former Old Hill seamer Billy-Jo Cox took 4-21 on debut for his new club.

Another Old Hill exile Mike Hingley hit 47 as Walsall cantered to a six-wicket success.

Pride of place in Division One was taken by Tamworth who in their first ever game at the level romped to what is believed to be a record winning margin in the top two divisions.

Stuart Burrows (101), Jake Flower (80), Worcestershire's Joe Clarke (77) and Ben Maddox (50) hit Barnards Green for 392-6 in 50 overs before James Rudge (4-13) and Josh Bowker (3-23) sent a shell-shocked Malvern side packing for 44.

Opening batsman Jayden Levitt (156) hit the highest individual score of the day in the division as Bromsgrove reached 261-6 against Attock.

Ryan Pedley added 41 for the home side who ran out winners by 33 runs as Attock closed on 228-6.

Qamar Khan was unbeaten on 80 and Rawait Khan scored 41 for Attock with Alex Wilkinson claiming 3-62 for Bromsgrove.

In Division Two promoted Pershore went down to a heavy eight-wicket defeat to Wombourne.

Liam Ridings (62), Taylor Pugh (52) and Adam Wiffen (41) helped Pershore to 218 all out with the returning Dale Quiney taking 3-65.

Then 99 from Dan Bassett and 91 from Will Cook saw Wombourne to a winning start in their quest to return to Division One.

Harborne were 49-run winners against Worcester's Old Elizabethans after dismissing the visitors for 266 in response to their own formidable total of 315-5.

Guriq Randhawa smashed five sixes and 24 fours in a classy 159 but OEs finished some way short despite 64 from former Eastnor all-rounder Atiq-ur-Rehman.

Tom Payne did much of the damage with 4-34.

In Division Three promoted Worcester Nomads were led by 69 from Trevor Keen and reached 205 all out with Lee McNeill taking 4-33.

Visitors Nuneaton finished on 202 all out with five balls remaining.

Martin Cox (48) and Jason Jakeman (41) almost pulled off a momentous victory for Nuneaton but the home side clung on to win by three runs.

Astwood Bank were bowled out for 207 as they lost by six wickets at home to Stratford.

Tom Shepherd top scored with 43no for Bank batting at number 10.
