LEDBURY Swimming Club returned to its home pool after a year of training at alternative venues around the county.

Following a major refurbishment, Halo Ledbury Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre has new wet and dry changing facilities, a state-of-the-art gym, spinning studio, sauna and steam rooms.

The first training session, led by head coach Tom Stokes, back in Ledbury was attended by over 50 young swimmers.

Chairman Steve Watson said: “We are delighted to be returning to Ledbury.

“A year is a long time to be without your home pool, but the new facilities are amazing and well worth the wait.

“We must, however, say a massive thank you to Malvern College, Malvern St James, John Masefield High School and Ross Swimming Pool who have helped to ensure the club could continue training during the building works.”

The club moved onto a temporary timetable on June 4, 2016 which meant they had to deliver in excess of 25 hours of training each week from alternative venues in Malvern and Ross on Wye.

Most of the sessions will be at Ledbury Leisure Centre, but they will retain Thursday and Friday evening training sessions in Malvern.

Watson added: “Our swimmers and parents have been very patient whilst Halo have completed the refurbishment and everyone involved with the club is enjoying being back in Ledbury.

“Having morning and evening training sessions available in both Malvern and Ledbury provides flexibility for all of our swimmers.”

l A men’s football club in Malvern have a new name and home.

Falcons FC will be based at The Express Inn and be known as Express Falcons FC with immediate effect.

The Worcester and District Sunday League outfit will hold a number of fund-raising events at the Express in the coming months to generate money for the side. The first will be on Saturday, June 3, when Falcons Legends go up against the first team at Sling Lane (2pm).

Falcons have competed in the league for 17 seasons and are appealing for new players aged 16 upwards due to several regulars moving away from the area. With a turnover of players, new home and a refreshed committee, the club, who will play games at Lower Howsell Road, are likely to be playing in Division Three next season.

Anyone interested in playing for the team can contact team manager Russ Collins on 07765 303434.
