A LARGE field entered the premier mixed competition at Worcester Golf and Country Club with husband and wife Shaun and Margaret Thomas taking the Amery Cup on countback.
Played to a foursomes stableford format the winning pair recorded 37 points, beating Stratford-on-Avon’s Janet and John Clifford by virtue of a stronger back nine holes.
In third spot were Boughton Park’s Angela and Neil Pearce on 36 points.
The Pearce pairing also picked up the Wood Trophy for the best-placed home pairing after the winners.
In the May Thursday medal Jason Hancocks recorded his best round for a while to head Division One.
Hancocks (handicap 5) recorded 66 nett and also took the prize for the competition’s lowest gross score of 71.
Mike Minihan (76 gross 8 handicap 68 nett) was runner-up with John Margretts (79-10-69) pushing the in-form Jacob Hamer (76-7-69) into fourth on countback.
In Division Two Peter Candlin (88-20-68) took first prize, finishing two shots ahead of Wayne Burnett Jones (87-17-70).
John Fellows made a rare appearance in the prizes, finishing third with 87-16-71, pushing Dave Blakeman (86-15-71) into fourth on countback.
