STUART Parker scorched round the Kinnersley Severn Stoke 20-mile course to win Worcester St John's Byrd Cup.

The cup was awarded to the rider who improves most on their average speeds this season.

The handicap event gave all cyclists an equal chance of winning and Parker, feeling strong despite the heat, clinched the trophy by 23 seconds from Andrea Turner and nearly a minute over third-placed Samantha Ballard.

Times were slow on a windy evening but speedy racer Simon Garrett finished in 45 minutes 10 seconds which was over two minutes quicker in the scratch race than Steve Clarke in second.
