THE 14th annual City of Worcester Sport Awards are on Thursday, September 14, at the University of Worcester Arena.

Long-standing supporter Steve Cram MBE will again be key speaker with BBC Midlands Today sports presenter and former Worcester News reporter Dan Pallett to act as host.

The evening, organised by Freedom Leisure in partnership with Sport Worcester and supported by Worcester City Council, involves a dinner and drinks reception followed by the award announcements and presentations.

It will be attended by 120 sporting VIPs, award nominees and their families, local sports clubs and businesses, council members, award sponsors and supporters, senior Freedom Leisure representatives and the mayor of Worcester.

The awards honour local sporting heroes, high achievers and ambassadors with 16 award categories supported by 19 key sponsors.

Categories are designed to recognise achievements of sporting participants, schools, volunteers, coaches, clubs, teams, volunteers and organisations.

Matthew Rogers, Freedom Leisure active communities manager, said: “These awards are a highlight of the city’s sporting calendar and this is an important announcement because we want to reach out and remind local sports organisations, schools, clubs and athletes to nominate their worthy students, coaches and teams for these wonderful awards.

"It’s worth noting that those who win their categories also go on to the next regional heats with the ultimate goal of reaching the national BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards in December.

“So if you know a volunteer, coach, club, team or individual from Worcester who has shown great dedication since August 2016 then show them the recognition they deserve by nominating no later than August 6.

"These awards really are a celebration of the city’s sporting talent in grassroots sport and one we are extremely proud to deliver.”
