WORCESTER City football secretary and director Joe Murphy has resigned to join AFC Telford United.

Murphy will be replaced as football secretary by Kevin Preece who will combine the role with safety officer on matchdays and working on gaining sponsorship for the club.

A City statement said: "We wish to announce the resignation of Joe as football secretary and director.

"Joe will be sorely missed and we are naturally extremely grateful for the exceptional work he has carried out on behalf of the club with what is an onerous, detailed and technical role within any organisation. Joe will be joining Telford.

"Joe will be replaced as football secretary by Kevin who many of you will know and will combine this role with safety officer on matchdays and sponsorships which is now running very successfully.

"Kevin has been a lifelong City fan and is keen to progress his career in local football. He will be a welcome addition to the management team."

Murphy will replace Sharon Bowyer as the football club secretary at Telford.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining Telford and I look forward to working with the management team and club officials.

"Leaving Worcester after eight memorable years was a really tough decision but I feel the time is right for a new challenge and I trust my experience in the game will be of benefit to my new club.”

Club director Andy Pryce said: “I am delighted to welcome Joe to the club.

"He brings a wealth of National League experience with him and I look forward to working with him for the forthcoming season.”

Worcester have not appointed a company secretary since the departure of John Jordan in April.
