FORMER Worcester City chairman Dave Boddy is the new chief executive at League Two Coventry City.

Boddy has been promoted to the role at the Sky Blues having initially been appointed as their commercial director in February.

He was formerly chief executive at Newport County and involved with the Football Conference as assistant general manager and league director.

Boddy took over as Worcester chairman from Dr Michael Sorensen in 2003 and made way for current incumbent Anthony Hampson to become a director.

He resigned from the board completely on Christmas Eve in 2009.

During his tenure, City’s ground was sold for housing to Careys New Homes but a new stadium at Nunnery Way proved financially unviable, although planning permission was gained by developers St Modwen.

A planned move to a new ground fell through after it hit financial troubles.

Worcester City are now homeless after leaving their St George’s Lane home of 108 years in 2013.

They currently ground share with Bromsgrove Sporting after three years sharing playing facilities with Kidderminster Harriers.

Boddy replaces previous managing director, Chris Anderson, who left the Ricoh Arena in September last year.

He begins his new role at Coventry with immediate effect, and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club.

Boddy said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and excited by the potential and prospects for the coming season under Mark Robins shrewd and dynamic guidance.

“This is a fantastic club, and I have seen at first hand the size of the club and its fanbase when we went to Wembley for the Checkatrade Trophy final.

“As priorities, I will look to develop the commercial opportunities and aim to improve our engagement with community, supporters and all stakeholders in the club."

He added: “While there are obvious challenges which exist, this is a club with huge potential and brilliant supporters.

“I look forward to working with fans, businesses, staff and local stakeholders in my new role."

The club also announced an extension for the Coventry City Football Club Academy to use the Alan Higgs Centre beyond the expiry of its current deal this month.
