STEVE Bidgood was the man in form when Bransford Golf Club’s members competed for the Captain’s Putter.

Playing off 12 he secured three birdies and seven pars to finish one under par on 71 for a score of six.

His nearest challengers were the quartet of Steve Collins (12), Mark Tipton (8), Maks Wyard (6) and Wayne Harris (14).

Then came Jason Keane (19) in sixth spot on three, along with Ollie Walker (2) and Gavin Heath (12) on the same score.

The Ladies Charity Challenge produced a tight finish on Friday with Leigh Thomas (18) just holding off the challenge of Coral Handley (25) in this stableford event with 36 points to 35.

Other leading scores were June Atkinson (19) and Pauline Wetton (27) both 33, Daphne Hayes (36) and Abi Nixon (29) both 32.

Bransford Seniors secured a well-earned draw when they visited Kington.

After losing the first two matches, they won the next three but the host club came back strongly to ensure the fixtures ended in a fitting 3-3 tie.

The winning pairs for Bransford were Trevor Atkinson and Charlie Hawkridge and Ferey Ghani and John Phillips who were both 5&4 up and Mike Davidge and Paul Edlin 2&1.

Dave Miller and Mike Holmes lost 4&2, Ivor Lloyd and Peter Harrison went down 5&4 and Roy Williams and Roger Clark slumped to a 3&2 loss. The Bransford course recently played host to a charity day in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance.

It saw 22 players take part with Bransford’s Philip Price top scoring with 39 points.

Organiser Peter Appleton said: “It was a most enjoyable and successful company corporate day with £500 raised for the charity.

“This has now become an annual event and hopefully next year we can increase the figure and also attract a few more entries.”
