WORCESTER City marked their long-awaited return home with a 4-0 victory over Worcester Raiders at Claines Lane.

Watched by about 780 fans, City, who had not played in Worcester since 2013, proved too good for hosts Raiders as Dave Reynolds opened the scoring with a penalty on 10 minutes.

The summer signing then set up James Baldwin to make it 2-0 moments later before Aaron Brett continued his hot-streak in front of goal.

After scoring a hat-trick against Pershore, the young striker came off the bench to bag a brace in the final 15 minutes of the pre-season friendly.

His late double wrapped up a comfortable win for the Blue and Whites who put on a show in the first ever Worcester derby.

With two levels separating the two teams, it was always going to be tall ask for Raiders who featured ex-City player Chris Cornes.

And they soon found themselves behind. Right-back Sam Yeomans and Brad Birch combined before feeding Baldwin who was tripped by Sam Bird as he tried to cut inside the defender.

Reynolds then stepped up and sent goalkeeper Dan Norcott the wrong way with a coolly-taken spot-kick.

Worcester added a second on 15 minutes when Reynolds’ fine floated delivery to the back post found Baldwin who headed in from close range.

Raiders almost conceded another as Reynolds latched on to a long ball from Mark Smith before sending his looping effort just wide.

With Baldwin causing problems down the left and Brad Birch and Dahmanae Sinclair controlling things in the centre of the park, City were well on top.

Captain Tyler Weir was also eager to get forward and get on the scoreboard, but his strike was turned away by Norcott.

As the half wore on Raiders came into it, with Bird going the closest with a volley, but visiting stopper Tom Palmer did not have much to do.

Even a lively start to the second period from the home side could not breakdown City as Palmer made a couple of easy saves.

On 63 minutes, Martin Newman had arguably Raiders’ best chance of the game after receiving a through ball from Matt Tyler. But the striker’s shot was tame as Palmer simply gathered.

City’s substitutes then injected pace and energy into the game with Tyreece Ruddock and Brett looking to make their mark.

Brett’s efforts were rewarded on 75 minutes as he was left with a simple tap-in after mix-up at the back. The academy ace then netted his second with seven minutes to go as he rounded off a nicely worked move with a composed finish.

He could have completed back-to-back hat-tricks, but his shot fell the wrong side of the post after being put through one-on-one with the keeper.

Substitute Luke Molloy also went close on a couple of occasions late on as his free-kick was palmed away by Norcott before flashing an effort wide.
