ROYAL Grammar School Worcester’s under 16s girls retained their Rounders England National Championship title for year 10 and 11.

They finished the term on a high with victory over King Edward’s Birmingham in the final.

Catches from Izzy Nott and excellent fielding from Caitlin Bolton and her team-mates kept King Edward’s down to three rounders before they were dismissed by ball 16.

RGS replied with Imogen Sinclair hitting a rounder off the first ball and they reached three by nine before Lottie Atkinson cleared the field to secure the national title.

In the opener against Gordon’s School RGS had been sleepy in the field and allowed the Surrey side to score 6½ before only replying with 5½.

After a firm team talk RGS fielded first against St John’s School and got them all out by ball 14, only conceding ½.

Captain Sinclair and Lauren Beardsley hit well with all other batters scoring to achieve 19½ off 18 good balls.

In the penultimate group game against Camp Hill RGS fielded first.

Alex Smith and Sophie Thompson took great catches as the opposition scored 4½ and the RGS total of 6½ provided another win.

The last group game was important and Portsmouth Grammar School reached 6.

With tense batting Evie Dickinson made it to second to secure the win with 6½.

RGS won the group and were drawn to play Sir William Perkins’ School in the semi-finals.

Winning the toss again their Surrey opponents reached 4½ before RGS stepped in to bat comfortably with Florence Briggs making it to second to secure a place in the final by ball 11.
