WESTACRE Middle became only the third winner in six years of the best team trophy at the annual Worcestershire Schools’ Sailing and Canoeing Association OnBoard Regatta.

With Abberley Hall and Malvern's The Chase School dominating over the last five years young sailors and paddlers from Droitwich, especially Archie Coates and Izzy Rollitt, ensured Westacre triumphed again after last winning in 2010.

Twenty-six pupils from 11 schools contested 15 trophies at Upton Warren Sailing Club with five dinghies and competitors from newcomers to national level sailors.

Westacre year six pupil Coates defended his Pico sailing class title with year five's Rollitt second and he also won the junior long distance paddling.

Ed Rose (Worcester Sixth Form College) made it eight trophies in 10 years after winning his first accolade for Martley Primary in 2007.

He landed both the Laser sailing and long distance paddling shields for the second consecutive year.

Isha Loudon (The Chase) also claimed back-to-back titles in the Topper Shield.

Rachel Ellis (Abberley Hall) and Martha Webb (Cutnall Green Primary) won the Feva and Bug trophies respectively.

George Rose (Abberley Hall) took the Hereford Shield for most improved sailor and Ella Spain (The Chase) received the Collings Cup for enthusiasm.

The Margaret Alton Award for top girl went to Eleanor Webb.

In the paddling events Joe Xia (Hereford Sixth Form College) won the Slalom Shield for the fourth successive year.

Liam Roberts (Witton Middle) took the Junior Slalom Shield and the overall Bell Boat Trophy went to The Chase.

The Upton Warren SC event team received the J Brooke Trophy for volunteer contribution with some having supported the regatta for 20 years.
