A SUMMER rugby camp in Malvern ran by three stars of the game has been hailed as a “huge success”.

About 80 boys and girls from under sevens to under 15s attended the camp at Malvern Rugby Club’s Spring Lane ground.

Ex-South Africa and Worcester Warriors full-back Thinus Delport, former rugby league ace Billy McGinty and Graham Smith who helped coach England Women to World Cup glory in 2014, held a session on each day. The trio worked alongside Touchline Sports Coaching.

Malvern youth chair Neil Palmer said: “The rugby camp was a huge success, with unprecedented numbers and support from the local community.

“It was the first time for a number of years that we have hosted a rugby camp at Malvern RFC and we were delighted with how well it went.

“All the children had a great time, learning new skills and making lots of new friends.

“To have the level of coaches on the camp really benefitted all the children.

“Nothing was too much trouble for Thinus, Billy and Graham. There is an unbelievable appetite for rugby across the town and we cannot wait until the start of the new season, which begins with registration on Sunday, September 3.

“We’ve got lots planned for the coming season and anyone aged between six and 17 is more than welcome to come along on a Sunday morning to Malvern RFC and give it a go.”
