NEW names will appear on Worcester Golf and Country Club’s Generation Shield this year after the partnership of Paul and Adam Griffin lifted the trophy for the first time.

The trophy rules allow any generation combination providing at least one is from the Boughton Park club.

Home club member Paul, a 10-handicapper, invited his son Adam (16), who plays at Halesowen , and the pair managed to record 38 stableford points.

The father-and-son combination of club members Les (9) and Sean Jenkins (17) were pushed back into runners-up spot on countback.

Thunder and lightning fetched players off the course twice during the Saturday round of the August two-day medal.

Despite this Andy Baker held his nerve to shoot a solid round of 72 gross 5 handicap 67 nett to top Division One.

His better back nine pushed Duncan MacPherson (69-2-67) into second place on countback with Shaun Roberts (68-1-67) finishing third, also on countback.

Keith Mulcock (77-9-68) was fourth with Peter Eccles (77-9-68) in fifth on countback.

John Hatt (79-12-67) took the honours in Division Two with junior James Bishop (84-13-71) second.

Steve Hickman (83-11-72), Mike White (83-11-72) and John Kartz (83-11-72) took the other positions.

Sean Jenkins (77-17-60) can expect a significant handicap reduction after shooting the lowest medal score for some years to win Division Three.

Russ Mason (84-18-66) was runner-up with Roger Mann (89-16-71) third, Rick Gerrard (90-18-72) fourth and Martin Willmott (92-19-73) fifth.
