OLD Elizabethans moved out of the Birmingham League Division Two relegation zone with a convincing seven-wicket win over fellow strugglers Penkridge.

Rana Hassan and Ishaq Mohammed both scored 55 for Penkridge.

Mohammed remained not out as Penkridge were all out for 231 in the 53rd over with Hemaka Pathiranage taking 4-69 for the Worcester side.

In reply OEs were 59-3 before an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 173 between Atiq ur-Rehman (117 not out) and Shameer Ahmed (57no) eased them away from the foot of the table.

Pershore, now up to second in the promotion places due to a 36-point deduction for Fordhouses, were held to a winning draw at Coventry and NW.

A half-century from Chris Ridings (53) held the first half of the Pershore innings together before an unbeaten 44 from Charlie Norton helped them to 212-8 with Greg Ricketts returning 3-40.

Dogged batting by the hosts frustrated Pershore after tea as they reached 132-7 after 55 overs.

Ombersley won their Worcestershire derby against Kidderminster by four wickets with three balls remaining.

The result leaves Kidderminster in the Premier Division bottom two even though they made up ground on Walsall.

Kidderminster’s Craig Wood struck 12 boundaries in an undefeated 131 but none of his batting colleagues made it to 20 as Kidderminster scored 215-9 from 55 overs.

Ex-Worcestershire all-rounder Gareth Andrew took 3-44 and Neil Slade 3-53 for Ombersley before an unbeaten 93 from Uday Kaul saw the villagers to a victory which keeps them firmly in fourth in the table.

Shrewsbury moved up into second place, seven points ahead of Berkswell who drop into third following a winning draw against Barnt Green.

Worcestershire opener Oliver Westbury steered Shrewsbury to 235-9 against Brockhampton at London Road with an unbeaten 115.

Jamie McIlroy took 4-61 for the visitors who were dismissed for 187 in reply.

Ian Bullock (49) and Ashley Bullock (44) were the pick of the batsmen for the Herefordshire side who remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Shrewsbury’s Mike Barnard took 5-43 as his side maintained their title challenge.

The 2016 champions Berkswell eased their way to 343-4 declared in 51.5 overs against Green who batted out time, reaching 156 -5 in 58 overs at the close.

Mohammed Ahmed opened with 57 for Berkswell but a third-wicket stand of 160 between Chris Whittock (122) and Tom Lewis (110no) took the game out of Green’s reach.

Whittock faced 106 balls, hitting 17 fours and three sixes, while Lewis’ runs came from 93 balls with 15 fours and four sixes.

Bromsgrove’s winning draw against Himley saw them leapfrog the Black Country side into third place in Division One.

A run-a-ball 132 from Jayden Levitt saw Bromsgrove to 274-5 against Himley after he and Ashley Newfield (58) put together an opening stand of 143.

Chad Brandrick took 3-39 for Himley who were saved from defeat by an impressive 101 from 134 balls by Nipin Karunanyake who lacked any support until Stuart Wedge (36) helped him to put on 112 for the sixth wicket.

Himley finished on 176 -8 with three wickets apiece for Alexei Kervezee (3-20) and George Marshall (3-52).

Walmley made light work of Barnards Green, romping to a three-wicket win with almost 10 overs in hand.

After Green slipped to 121-7 Oli Swift hit an unbeaten 77 to take them to 207-9 after 55 overs.

Jonathan Newis took 5-66 for Walmley who were helped to victory by a fourth-wicket partnership of 97 between Michael Waugh (76no) and Iandev Chauhan (65).

Worcestershire’s George Rhodes took 4-57 for Green who remain in mid-table.

Astwood Bank were seven-run victors over Milford Hall to move up to third in Division Three.

Steve Adshead (54) and Pete Alexander (44no) were the mainstays in Bank’s total of 196-7 with Chris Dean taking 4-71.

Aaron Afford hit 12 boundaries in his 58 for Milford and James Davis (71no) did likewise with a six for good measure.

But excellent bowling at both ends of the innings by Ryan Blakemore (5-54) and 3-40 from Josh Baker secured maximum points for Bank.

Second-from-bottom Worcester Nomads are looking to end the season with a flourish and dragged Newport into the relegation frame.

Patrick O’Driscoll (5-20) and Ben Schiffmann (5-42) bowled unchanged as Newport were skittled for 66, allowing Nomads the luxury of a nine-wicket win which gave them the slenderest of chances of avoiding relegation.
