MALVERN Town ran out 5-2 winners at Wellington Amateurs in West Midlands League Premier Division.

The two sides were locked at 2-2 at the start of the season half after goals from Shaun Smith and Josh Weatherby were cancelled out by strikes from George Lees and Brody Milligan.

But Matthew Turner struck twice, including a late penalty, to turn the tide in Malvern’s favour before Harry Wicket netted to wrap up the victory.

With Charlie Weaver injured and Josh King on holiday, 16-year-old Joshua Breakwell, who plays for Town’s under 18s was named in goal.

But he had little to do in the early stage as Weatherby and Turner both tested home stopper Ste Bray before Malvern opened the scoring.

With 13 minutes on the clock, Smith played a one-two with Wicket before firing home the opener.

After Evans had a shot parried by Bray, the hosts levelled as Town were caught out by a long ball, leaving Lees to score.

But Town hit back on 33 minutes when Wetherby latched onto Evans’ pass before turning and volleying the ball into the top corner.

Breakwell was forced into a save on 43 minutes when he pushed over a shot from distance before Bray denied Wetherby from long range on the stroke of half-time. Turner went close to extending Malvern’s lead moments after the break as he collected a through ball before shooting just wide.

Wellington equalised again on 51 minutes when Milligan’s 30-yard free kick proved too good for Breakwell.

But Town responded almost immediately as Luke Molloy went on a run before finding Turner who made it 3-2.

Malvern were playing some decent football and continued to threaten as Turner fired straight at Bray after a good move with Molloy before Wicket’s effort went across the goal.

Turner should have netted his second on 77 minutes as he somehow failed to turn in Evans’ wonderful low cross from just a few yards out.

But he got the chance to make amends.

Evans was brought down in the area and Turner converted the resultant penalty.

Three minutes from time, Town scored their fifth of the afternoon. with Wicket finding the net.

Malvern host Wednesfield tonight (7.45pm).
