CANAL ace Mick Sampson turned his hand to feeder fishing with good effect when he beat a good turnout in the final Swan AC aggregate contest of the year on Mythe pool.

Despite hot, sunny conditions the venue fished better than expected with Sampson taking eight bream and a tench from peg six on a groundbait feeder and maggot combination weighing 27lb 3oz 0dr.

Second was Alf Hand with a seven-bream, feeder-caught weight of 26-3 from peg 15.

Third with a peg-eight, pole-taken catch of bream was Keith Hunt with 21-15.

Section prizes went to Lee Davies with 11-2 and Mike Higginbotham with 17-5.

Carl Graham won the Whitehall contest at Tirley court with 121-14 of carp from peg 15 with all his fish coming to a pole and sweetcorn approach.

Runner-up was Darren Bryant with 92-14 of carp to corn, meat and pellet baits while in third was Matt Barnes with 88-2 to beat Richard Oliver’s 85-8.

Section winners were Vic Watling and Graham Goodyear.

Whitehall 1212AC tackled the Paddock pool at Leigh Sinton where Oliver weighed in two mugged carp going 11-8.

Nick Denly took second with an all-small carp, meat-fed weight of 7-5 while in third was Dan Sydall’s bream net of 7-3.

Sections went to Owen Crane, John Shelton and Tracy Pegram.

The silver fish winner was Mike Hope.

The close Ron Goldsby invitation match at Fishponds was won by Rob Page on peg 15 with 8-11 of ide and roach on maggot bait.

Gareth Cook came second with 7-7, third was Shelton’s 7-4 and fourth Dave Warren with 7-0.

Towpath expert Colin Davis won the 20-peg Barley Mow club match on a below-par High Wall section of the canal at Stoke Works.

He took 6-0 of caster-caught roach to beat Pete Chance's 3-14-11 and Mick Sparkes’ 2-11.

Dave Lowe, Will Priddy, Mick Salcumbe and Kevin Francis won their sections.

Two midweek Upton AA contests on the River Severn provided good individual bream catches.

Rich Brewer won the first with an 11-fish haul on feeder and maggot from peg two going 60-8.

Second was Mick Salcumbe with one bream going 7-2 and in third Colin Harvey’s peg 16 float catch of 6-14.

The following week Upton’s Richard Blight won with 38-1 from peg 19.

Brewer was second with 34-4 and Alan Baldwin’s 31-3 peg 30 catch got third spot.

A charity match for the armed forces at Leigh Sinton Fisheries involved two pools due to the large turnout.

The Woodland View pool winner was Nigel Atherley with a carp weight of 41-15 and second was Alan Williams (Malvern) 31-5.

Top man on the Paddock pool was Kevin Morris (Malvern) with 20-7 and Mark Jefferies caught 6-12 for second.

There was £924 raised for charity on the day.
