EVESHAM United won their first Southern League Division One South and West home game of the season 1-0 with a late goal from summer signing Matt Liddiard.

The Robins, who drew 2-2 at Larkhall Athletic on Saturday, were camped in relegated Cinderford Town’s half for the first 15 minutes and Jordan Bryan hit the side-netting before Matt Bennett headed wide.

The chances came thick and fast with the hosts' Bradley Gray having a shot turned round the post and Cinderford's Craig Norman heading over.

Norman's shot was cleared off the line by Bennett and Robbie Atkinson nodded over.

Evesham keeper Kevin Sawyer saved well from Liam Angel and then denied Nick Humphries early in the second half.

Paul Fahy headed wide for Evesham but the deadlock was finally broken on 86 minutes when Liddiard headed in from close range via the crossbar.

Adam Mann's effort was saved by keeper Cameron Clark late on.

Evesham visit Newcastle Town in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday (3pm).
