STEVEN Lane came close to winning the highly-acclaimed Eden Trophy at the home of golf.
The Worcestershire Golf Club member produced some terrific golf at St Andrew’s to reach the final where he lost to Daniel McCoy two down.
The Eden Tournament attracted players from South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, USA, Canada and across Europe.
Following a couple of practice rounds, Lane completed two stroke-play qualifying rounds, scoring gross 71 on the Eden Course and 76 on the New Course.
Having recorded one of the lowest aggregate scratch scores, he got the chance to play for the Eden Trophy by scratch match play.
Over four gruelling rounds, Lane defeated Niall Lamond (Scotland), Jake Croshaw (England), Henk Geldenhuys (South Africa) and last year’s finalist Sam Henfrey (England).
In the semi-finals, Lane chipped in dramatically on the first extra hole to beat Jamie Melton (England), but was then edged out by McCoy in a closely-fought final.
The club was also represented by Dave Jones, chairman Mike Hanna, Josh Worrell, Steve Carter and Tom Howells.
Worrell qualified for the match-play stage but was knocked out after one round.
