RACING will return to Knightwick in 2018 after 34 years away with a new course created.

Point-to-point was hosted at various venues in the area from 1946 until a move to Upper Sapey in 1984.

The new course will be used for the first time on Sunday, April 29, next year.

Despite moving dates several times the meet at Upper Sapey was always at risk when conditions were dry and the 2017 event was abandoned due to hard ground.

Prior to moving to Upper Sapey the Clifton-on-Teme Point-to-Point was held in Horsham, a neighbouring village to Knightwick.

The new course has been possible thanks to John and Sue Walker and will be located on land known as The Rock.

It is just off the A44 Worcester to Bromyard road on the left-hand side just before The Talbot/Knightwick turning if coming from Worcester.

The oval, left-handed course will be set out on meadows adjacent to the River Teme.

Each circuit will measure approximately one-mile-and-a-half a furlong.

Four fences will be situated in the back straight and another two in the home section.

In future the meeting will be marketed as Knightwick Races.

Organisers are interested if anyone has any old steeplechase fences they are thinking of replacing or any old running rails.
