OLD Vigornians remained in a Worcestershire League Second XI Division Three promotion spot after digging in for a draw with Alvechurch and Hopwood.

The hosts batted first on an excellent pitch on a sunny day and made the most of the conditions with 248-8 in 45 overs.

After Eliot Turner and Phil Mackie removed the openers Simon Bowron hit an aggressive 63 in a third-wicket stand of 105 with Curtis Beach.

After Turner returned for his second wicket Jordan Rollins hit a quick 20.

James Hayward-Meek (4-54) ran through the middle order and Beach was run out for 98.  OVs' top four were all back in the pavilion with the score on just 31.

Tim Waites (14) and George Hayward-Meek (24 retired) added 40 for the fifth wicket.

But Waites was dismissed and Hayward-Meek pulled a calf muscle.

Teenagers Turner (29 not out) and Zain Hussain (22) added 53 for the seventh wicket.

But with skipper Mackie also injured the final fit pair of batsmen were at the crease when OVs finished on 153-7.

Rushwick moved closer to the title with victory over bottom side Halesowen.

Martley seconds gained a creditable draw at leaders Himbleton in Division Four.

Himbleton rattled up 225-6 in 45 overs with Steve Beavan (116no) top scoring.

The run chase was on 128-1 in the 27th over when Ash Jones (52) and Robert Ganderton (60) fell quickly as Martyn Preece took 6-50.

The middle order misfired and the last pair needed an unlikely 18 to win off the final over.

Tom Butler and Simon Butler gave it a go but with the former needing a six off the last ball a solid forward defensive stroke secured a draw on 221-9.

Droitwich look to have sealed the Division Two title after a win over Chaddesley Corbett thanks to veteran Paul Bryan’s patient 113no.
