WORCESTER just missed out on a try bonus point as they beat Moseley Oak 28-11 in their Midlands One West home opener.

Tom Biggs scored the first try from a close-range surge after good work from Dave White but could not convert.

Worcester continued to put Oak under pressure and after a high tackle Biggs increased their lead.

Both teams searched for openings but Oak replied with a penalty for not releasing.

They then levelled after a quick break when Worcester were guilty of an overthrow from their own line-out.

The home scrum was in the ascendancy with Richard Ralph, David Whiting and Alex Peel prominent.

Biggs stroked over another penalty to regain the lead.

Worcester enjoyed territorial advantage and the Moseley scrum struggled to keep them at bay.

A pushover try from Tim Ohlson converted by Biggs stretched the lead.

From a close-range scrum Worcester's forwards drove a larger, heavier pack back and were awarded a penalty try to make it 25-8 at the break.

Worcester's defence stood up to second-half pressure and only conceded a penalty.

Biggs stroked over another three points but the hosts could not find the bonus-point try and lost Olly Meadows to the sin-bin.

A solid performance against a strong side saw Jack Dutton voted Worcester's man of the match Promoted Droitwich kicked off the Midlands Two West (South) season in style with a 73-10 home thrashing of Old Yardleians.

Charlie Yip (2), Pete Knight, Mark Strutt and Sam O’Brien scored first-half tries with four converted by Bobby Scott-Walker.

Scott-Walker came off injured but Ruben Staite (2), Luke Topping, Strutt, Brad Smith and Matt Barnes added to the try count with Nat Maginnis converting five.

Malvern won the county derby 39-17 at promoted Evesham.

The visitors' pack drove over to open the scoring and Rob Cook converted.

Hale got the bonus-point try and Ben King scored a fifth with Cook completing the scoreline with the boot.
