WORCESTER City Supporters’ Trust chairman Dave Wood has rejected a second offer to join the board of the football club.

Wood, who turned down City counterpart Anthony Hampson’s offer to take the helm in August 2016, confirmed he had received the offer and that he had reached a decision yesterday but politely declined to comment before responding.

However, Hampson today revealed he had received a reply to the proposal that he had put forward on Friday of last week with Wood declining, despite feeling “grateful to be considered”.

Taking the post would undoubtedly have left Wood with a sizeable quandary with the trust and the club pursuing different options in order to secure a new stadium in Worcester.

Hampson had hoped to gain more support from Wood and the trust for the club’s plans to develop Worcester City Council’s preferred site at Parsonage Way.

But any hope of an unlikely union came hot on the heels of the fans’ group announcing a meeting to discuss an appeal over the Perdiswell ground proposal which has been thrown out twice by the council despite planning officers recommending it for approval.

Three members of the trust — Jem Pitt, Rob Crean and Mike Davis — stood down as club directors in July 2016 claiming they had been “deliberately excluded” from board meetings but Hampson remains keen to find a way to get club and trust united behind one stadium option while also adding to the club’s directorship.

“I sent an email on Friday to ask amongst other things whether Dave would be interested in a directorship,” said Hampson.

“We had a false dawn before when members of the trust came on to the board but then all resigned in one fell swoop.

“Dave would be quite an asset to the club. We are looking for new directors to come on board, we have this opportunity at Parsonage Way and need people to get behind the club to get Worcester back into the city.”

Speaking prior to this morning’s (Thursday’s) development, Wood remained tight-lipped over his decision and cited personal circumstances for delaying his reply.

“Out of courtesy to Anthony, I need to respond to him before I say anything publicly. It is only right and proper to do that,” said Wood.

“I have not had the opportunity to write back due to other commitments and I plan to do so this week.”

The trust gathering, which is limited to members only, takes place on Tuesday at Warndon Community Hub, Shap Drive, Worcester (7.45pm).
