A NEW name led the leaderboard in a medal at Worcester’s Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park Golf Club.

Robert Griffiths (20 handicap) leapfrogged the early leaders to take the win with 65 nett.

He did not get off to the best of starts with a triple bogey on the first followed by three more bogies.

But Griffiths, pictured, got into a better groove and found the holes in better time.

Six pars went on to his card along with a birdie on the 14th which helped him finish with just one shot in hand after two other double bogies and a triple on the eighth.

Bill Kelly (22) took second after holding the lead for much of the morning.

Posting 66 early on, his five pars were hit by four double bogies and a triple on the 17th.

Tony Walker (18) was third on 67 with six pars and a birdie on the 18th negated by one double bogey, a triple on the eighth and a quadruple on the 17th.

Tony Solomon (25) went round in 68 with just two pars and one double bogie, two triples and a quadruple on the 13th.

Handicaps were cut with Griffiths to 19, Kelly to 21 and Solomon to 24.

Thirty-one players competed with just five managing nett par for the course.

John Fogwill and Steve Williams (13 team handicap) won a foursomes with 66 nett on a dreary but dry morning.

They recorded a birdie on the fifth and nine pars with just one double bogey on the 11th.

Twenty-three pairs took on the challenge with just four matching or breaking nett par for the course.
