RICHARD Cumming won the Charity Cup at Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park in Worcester in style.

Cumming, whose handicap was cut from 27 to 26, secured a birdie on the 16th hole and two pars on the second and 11th.

Utilising his abundance of shots in hand, he topped the leaderboard early on.

Although conditions were reasonably favourable, no one was able to match his 64 nett let alone better it.

Cumming recorded four double bogies and two triples on the ninth and 15th but they could not deny him.

Tony Cooper (22 handicap) pushed the winner hard with 65 but did not help his own cause when he found Cumming’s ball in the trees following an errant drive off the 18th tee.

He recorded four pars with just four double bogies and nothing worse.

Geoff Jones (20) had another decent round and took third after a three-way tie on 67.

Countback over the last nine holes with Jones scoring 31 gave him the place.

Steve Duggan (21) was fourth after he netted 34 on the way in with Norman Vernalls getting 35 to finish fifth.

Thirty-four players competed and conditions seemed to favour many of the higher handicap players.

Mike Sanders showed he can mix it up with the best with a win in the sixth of the seven-round summer league.

A birdie on the 18th sealed victory for Sanders (25) but a few more conversions earlier on would have taken some of the pressure away.

With just two pars he was glad of his shots in hand although three double bogies and a triple on the 13th threatened to spoil his day.

Sanders held on to snatch a long-awaited win thanks to 63 nett and his handicap was cut to 23.

Julian Bateman (13) returned 65 to hold the lead for a while as an eagle two on the 18th closed his round out on a high.

He also carded a birdie on the second and seven pars alongside three costly double bogies.

Ben Watts (16) netted 66 to take third and Robert Brookes (9) claimed fourth on countback with 67 from Mike Huggins in fifth and Tom Jenkins in sixth.

Thirty-seven players competed with just seven matching or bettering nett par for the course.
