TIRELESS student Dominic Ives insists there is “no time” to rest on his laurels as he bids to establish himself in Worcester Wolves’ first-team.
The 21-year-old from Kent is in his final year studying sports and exercise science at the University of Worcester.
But as well as hitting the books hard, he has pledged to give his all on the basketball court to impress head coach Paul James.
Ives, who made four appearances last term, is hoping to be contention for Wolves’ trip to Surrey Scorchers tomorrow in British Basketball League (2pm).
“This my last year and I want to give everything I have got,” Ives said.
“I might feel tired at times, but once I am on the court I am 100 per cent going for it.
“There is no time to even let up and rest a bit.
“I have got to get out there and show my worth.”
Ives also captains the university team and Wolves’ second string side who play in National League Division Three.
“It’s a bit of a struggle,” Ives said.
“But I work with the coaches and just manage my time and training load.
“I am never over fatigued as I make sure I eat the right meals and keep looking after myself.”
Ives began at Canterbury in the Elite Academy League before enrolling at university in 2015.
“The biggest step for me is trying to solidify my place in the BBL team,” Ives added.
“I want to use the university’s first team and Division Three team to just improve my skills on the court and then try to step it up another level in the BBL.”
