FORMER River Wye champion Matt Hamilton beat a talented line-up to win the coveted Alan Reynolds memorial contest.

Held on a below par section of the river at Belmont for the first time, Hamilton found himself on permanent peg 95 near the road bridge.

He had no hesitation in targeting big fish with a maggot feeder set up and was rewarded with the first of a brace of medium sized barbel early on.

He had to wait until the final hour of the contest for his second fish which when added to a few small silvers pulled the scales down to a match-winning 14-12-0 total.

Runner-up was in-form Alan Baldwin who took a few good perch on worm on peg 81 before finding a shoal of roach willing to feed on his stick float line. This saw him finish with a weight of 12-10-0.

Third place from between the bridges peg 96 went to Mark Taylor with just two feeder caught chub weighing 11-4-0.

He beat Alf Hand on peg 79 who netted a pellet caught barbel in the dying minutes to add to a few bleak and roach going 9-2-0.

Section winners were John Moloney, Craig Hobbs, Clive Stapleton and Ray Downey.

The prizes were presented by Worcester Angling Society chairman Dave McCowen who has been a society member since 1945.

Rich Brewer comfortably won the Upton ‘float only’ contest when he took 11-9-0 of prime roach from peg 14 on the Ham using a maggot and ‘Bolo’ approach.

In joint second place were Shaun Gould and Tony Hamilton. Both anglers weighed in all roach catches of 8-5-0.

Fourth place was another tie with Alan Baldwin and Alf Hand having 7-11-0 roach nets.

Stuart Cholerton recorded his first ever ‘ton’ weight when he won the latest Whitehall AC contest, held on the Ghost pool at Woodland View, with a peg 18 all carp net going 116-10-0.

All his fish fell to the pellet feeder with maggot hook bait.

Runner-up was veteran Keith Holt.

He put a pellet and pole caught 80-11-0 onto the scales beating third placed Dean Grubb who weighed in 73-3-0.

Section prizes went to Matt Barnes and Rob Grubb, while Carl Graham was crowned this season’s club champion for the second consecutive year.
