JENTIN Racing secured Bennetts British Superbike Championship points but the Mallory Park meeting was tainted by tragedy.

In one of the wettest meetings of the season, Wiltshire 21-year-old Ollie Bridewell was killed in a crash at the end of the first practice session.

Evesham's Simon Andrews finished 11th in race one and 12th in the second at the Leicestershire circuit.

But a spokesman for his team said: "The untimely loss of one of the rising stars of British superbikes reminds us all of the dangers of superbike racing.

"We extend our sincere sympathy to the family and friends at the loss of Ollie. "

The weather improved for racing and, after the cancellation of qualifying, grid positions were related to the riders' championship places.

Andrews started from number 16 and made his way through the field for 11th in the first race.

In a much harder second contest, the Worcestershire rider was boxed in for the first lap and had to fight back for a tough 12th.

Andrews said: "Mallory is a short circuit and 30 laps on a superbike certainly takes it out of the body with the older R1 carrying a lot more weight making the workload for my body much higher.

"I was pleased to be only one second off the leaders on lap times and I am happy to get two solid rides in dry conditions for a change.

"We are racing at Croft in three weeks' time when we will be using the next stage development Mountune Engine in the 2007 R1."
