OUTGOING The Vale Golf Club captain Derek Lambert handed over the mantle to his successor Andy Jinks at their annual general meeting.

It followed the weekly competition on a dry and occasionally sunny morning involving 72 players in a TexAm on a course in a fine state.

Lambert played well as a team with David Millard, Mike Roberts and Larry Taylor to secure fourth with 94 points.

Erle Andrews, Geoff Mayneord, David Carrington and John Whale won with 95.

Jim Knowles, Adrian Duggan, David Aylesbury and Bob Foster were second with 95 ahead of John Turner, Tony Perryman, Brian Summers and John Easter with 94.

At the ensuing meeting Lambert presented Jinks with the new captain’s blazer.

Jinks announced Peter Morris will be his vice-captain and the captain’s charity for 2018 will be St Richard’s Hospice.

Lambert said the combined efforts of the section in 2017 raised over £4,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Three members retired from the committee and four were appointed in replacement by a unanimous show of hands.

The men’s section of The Vale held their annual captain's drive-in.

They presented a cheque to charity Rays of Sunshine for £3,200.

The charity provide wishes for children who are terminally ill or have life-changing conditions to provide hope, happiness and smiles.

Lesley Williams and her daughter Sophie represented the charity.
