MALVERN Town are hoping the weather holds this weekend so they can finally play a pre-season friendly.

Paul Molloy's side host Dudley Sports on Saturday (3pm) but have only played one warm-up match so far, drawing 1-1 with Ledbury Town.

Last Saturday's match against Blue Square North newcomers Tamworth at the Langland Stadium and Tuesday's trip to Pegasus Juniors both fell to the rain.

Manager Molloy is in the process of running the rule over several trialists but has been left frustrated at the lack of games to play them in.

Former Worcester City goalkeeper Lewis Skyers is still with the club, while Molloy will continue talks with Andy Hodgetts when the striker returns from holiday.

Molloy said: "It's really put a dent in our pre-season but everybody is in the same boat.

"We have a lot of trialists but we haven't had a chance to see them as we have only played Ledbury. We need a game just so we can see a few players and get a few signed up."

However, captain Wes Joyce is unable to commit himself to the club next season because of work commitments.

Midfielder Rik Halion, who is suspended for the first six games of the season, is also contemplating turning his back on Malvern.

Molloy added: "Wes Joyce will sign as cover because of work commitments. Rik Halion did really well last year but he's still deciding whether to play Sunday morning football instead or not."

Malvern reserves recorded a 3-2 victory over Powick in mid-week with goals from Jamie Thomas, James Badham and Dave Lawrence.

They visit Feckenham on Saturday (3.30pm) in a double header with the youth team, who kick-off at 1pm.

Meanwhile, Stourport Swifts host Redditch United at Walshes Meadow with manager Phil Mullen preparing to give run-outs to a new batch of trialists (3pm).

Swifts defeated Ledbury Town 4-2 in their only pre-season match to date but have been boosted by left-back and player-of-the-year Adam Robinson re-signing for the club.
