TOM Gregory claimed the honours in the Geoff Edge Cup round three of six at Worcester’s Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park Golf Club.

A dry but chilly and windy morning saw Gregory (22 handicap) come out on top with 41 points on countback from Martin Hucker (13).

Phil Lane (16) was third on 39 and Stephen Baylis (6) fourth on 36 out of 29 challengers.

Gregory managed 22 points on the back nine after six pars and scoring on every hole but was glad of his shots in hand following five double bogies.

Hucker started and finished with birdies while dropping in eight pars but a costly triple bogey on the seventh, his only no-score, cost him with 21 over the back nine.

Playing handicap adjustments following their rounds put Gregory down to 20 and Hucker to 12.

Mike Williams topped the winter league round three of seven after Barrie Hope won the second.

Williams (18) got 41 points in the stableford while Malcolm Dainty (21) was second on countback from Mark Purser (8) with both on 40.

Stephen Griffiths (16) finished fourth on 39, edging out Steve Williams, Ben Watts and Gregory on countback.

After a few days of heavy frosts, the contestants welcomed slightly warmer conditions and capitalised on the slightly tamer course.

A birdie on the ninth hole and six pars propped up the Mike Williams card and he minimised the damage with three double bogies on three, six and eight.

Dainty had a handicap reduction to 20.

Of the 40 starters, 16 returned scores equivalent to nett par or better for the course.

The second round saw Hope (7) bag 38 points for the success but only on countback from Adrian Tinker (12) in second and Jamie Newton (12) in third with Dainty fourth on 37.

Near-freezing conditions saw 39 players compete and countback still left two of the three players tied over the back nine.

Hope posted  a better last six score of 14 after a birdie on the 17th, 11 pars, six bogies and a score recorded on every hole.

Tinker could only manage 12 on the last six but edged out Newton who got 18 over the back nine.

There was a medal success for Malcolm Stanley (20) with 68 nett.

Steve Bellinger (13) took second from Norman Vernalls (16) on countback with both on 70 and Mick Huggins (17) was fourth on 71.

The soft conditions and fierce swirling winds took their toll as just one player got home below nett par for the course.

Stanley came to terms with the adverse conditions as a birdie on the 18th and just four pars helped him head the field.

Five double bogies and a triple on the fourth meant it was not all plain sailing.

All 27 players were glad to get back to the relative calm of the clubhouse.

Ravenmeadow and Perdiswell Park beat Sherdons 4½-3½ in a seniors mixed match for the return leg of the coveted Sherdwell Cup.

The weather threw pretty much everything at the 32 golfers in the eight greensomes ties.

Roger Savage with Moyra Bodley and Jan Schutte with Sonia Wigley both won 3&2 despite conceding nine and 11 shots respectively.

Phil Rowland stepped in at short notice as an honorary lady after a late withdrawal and secured the only half of the match with Roy Turner.

Lane and Sue Price won two-up while Huggins and Jane Rowland triumphed 4&3.

Hucker and Mary Bendall lost two-down, Stanley and Sue Clissett fell 3&2 and Tony Solomon and Alli Griggs went down 5&4.
