STRIKER Jamie Molyneux revealed his ambition to play higher had instigated his switch from Westfields to Highgate United.

The former Redditch United and Hereford hitman, 23, debuted for his new club at Westfields on Saturday with tomorrow's reverse fixture at The Coppice (7.45) seeing friends reunited once more.

Molyneux admitted the switch had been made with a heavy heart but that his desire to go up this season had been the swinging factor.

"Highgate is on my door step and unfortunately the season at Westfields fizzled out for me – they can't go up and can't go down," said Molyneux.

"I loved every minute of my time there and Sean Edwards (manager) has done a lot for me, as has the club.

"It will always have a place in my heart and they've got a great set-up with everyone putting in a lot of effort.

"But I felt it was time for a new local challenge and promotion is definitely doable at Highgate."

Molyneux still believes he can perform at a higher level and felt he could have still offered something at Hereford.

  • Stourport Swifts face a battle to hold on to hitman Nick MacPherson after Alvechurch filed an approach last week.

MacPherson, also the Worcester Sunday League Premier Division’s top scorer with 24 goals for Callow End, notched his 18th of the campaign as Swifts moved further away from relegation danger with a 2-0 win at Haughmond on Saturday.

Church snapped up burly frontman Aaron Lloyd from Stourport last month but there has been talk of MacPherson, who featured for Worcester Raiders last season, being offered a contract at Walshes Meadow.

Swifts host AFC Wulfrunians tomorrow (7.45).
